Hi! I'm Emily Shen

Currently @ Develop For Good

I'm an undergraduate at UCLA studying Cognitive Science &

pursuing Product Design.

BACKGROUND

I grew up in sunny San Diego, where the culture is easygoing and deeply people-oriented.

That environment taught me to stay warmly curious about people. What are the top worries on their mind? What are they seeking in life? What priorities inspire certain behaviors?

MY DESIGN STRENGTHS

With a background in psychology research, I've learned how important it is to ask the right questions and dig deeply into the existing state of the world before making big decisions.

When it comes to execution, my strengths are product strategy and information architecture: turning ambiguity into clear frameworks and product visions.

Twinhood shaped how I see people

Twinhood shaped how I see people

Growing up as a separated identical twin, I became fascinated by our similarities and differences. Why do we share the same humor, yet she prefers competitive sports while I lean into the arts (dance, violin, piano)?

Curiosity led me to psychology

Curiosity led me to psychology

In high school, I followed that curiosity into psychology research and started my school’s first psychology club. I soon realized I craved something more fast-paced, tangible, and iterative.

Finding fulfillment in design

Finding fulfillment in design

That’s when I found design: the intersection of psychology, tech, and art.

Now I design products to bring delight to people’s lives, just like the same way learning about human behavior and performing brings delight to me.

As a competitive hip hop dancer, I’ve learned how to synergize with a team, convey stories visually, and lead with presence and charisma.

Thinker

My friends know me for my, big-picture questions, frequent reflections, and occasional overthinking... but I wouldn’t trade these traits for anything - they are what keep me learning and growing!

Ask me about my favorite sci-fi

mind-benders or thought-provoking podcasts :)

I’m constantly seeking moments that remind me what it’s like to be human. From cliff jumping to devouring watermelon with a spoon…

These moments remind myself to live with agency, purpose, and joy.
